I’ve just begun rehearsing a production of ‘Hairspray’. The joy of the lyrics and the music is positively infectious and I very much am looking forward to sharing the show with others.
But on a more serious note, it’s got me thinking … at the first rehearsal, our fabulous director said something that I haven’t been able to get out of my head. He said, “People seem to think the ’60s can’t happen again. It can. You think someone won’t just take away the hard-earned rights of people of color, women, gay people as if it were nothing. He can and he will” (paraphrased).
I just would like to share with the world … the ’60s can happen again. Someone as crazed as Trump, armed with a Republican controlled congress, and fueled by the xenophobic, racist, sexist, homophobic, and frankly undereducated portion of Republican America will take us back there.
If this scares you as much as it scares me, do not vote for this maniac.
Don’t refuse to vote to make a statement against a woman who is no guiltier than any other male politician; don’t fuss over the dirt on her skirt while ignoring it on every other man’s trousers.
